How to change an Asset’s name
Yes, you can change the Asset Name after upload. The Asset Name is the title displayed in the Asset Grid, Asset Page, and elsewhere throughout the system.
The Asset Name defaults to the uploaded filename(1), but can be changed as you see fit. This will also change the Asset slug/url, and the downloaded filename.
Change the Asset Name by editing Asset Name in the Assets metadata section - in Admin.
(1) Generally we recommend that you prepare your filenames before upload - so that on download they make sense, but while in the App the Asset title is used (i.e. filename or caption if entered).
- In Admin
- Navigate the Asset Page for the Asset you wish to update
- Open the Metadata form by clicking the Edit metadata link at the top of the Metadata section.
- Enter your preferred name as plain text in the Asset Name input (avoid underscores and other characters that won’t display in URLs).
- Scroll down and click Save
Alternative method: Versioning
Another way to update an Asset’s Asset Name, is to use the Versioning feature to change the assets original Filename.
- Download the Original file.
- Change the filename on your computer or device.
- Upload the renamed file as a new Version to the asset.
- With Versioning all the pertinent metadata of the original is kept and only the file specific data updated, e.g. filename, filesize, etc.
Batch changing several Asset Names at once
Currently batch Asset Names changes are not possible but will be added at a future date.
Happy branding :)
