Sustainability at Brandkit^®

Brandkit recognizes that businesses can have a negative impact on the environment.
We are committed, and enjoy, finding ways in which we can reduce the impact of our work.

It is our policy to:

• Simplify our software by writing less code, and integrating it with other systems, instead of building a monolith that replicates functionality already available elsewhere (which would be a terrible waste of energy). So we won't try and add every feature of function under the sun to Brandkit - we'll stick to our knitting and work with others. For example, we don't offer WIP workflow in Brandkit, as there is already specialized software for that. We don't need to replicate that functionality if we can integrate with best of breed solutions instead.
• Design software that consumes less power for each function or process by optimizing code and reducing the need for additional server resources in the data-center. Bonus is general efficiency gains, fewer dependencies, and lower operating costs.
• Reuse rather than Duplicate code and content. For example, we have a feature in Brandkit called Super Account, that enables an original digital asset to appear in multiple customers accounts, without duplication.
• Support and encourage our customers to be sustainable. Our software and products are designed and will actively promote sustainable and environmental practices. For example, our software will actively promote the reuse of digital assets vs purchasing new digital assets and we'll promote digital communications instead of printed communications. In our writing and content, we'll encourage brands to stay focussed on their differentiated promise, to slow down a little and grow sustainably, to act honestly and truthfully in marketing, to respect the IP of others, and to create and operate sustainable businesses that last.
• Work remotely and asynchronously where possible, so employees can work and live according to there natural rhythms and lives at home. Remote working generally consumes fewer resources, saves time lost commuting, reduces traffic, unnecessary stress, energy consumption, and carbon emissions. Asynchronous work enables employees to fit work into their lives rather than the other way around. For example, get up with the sun, eat food that is in season, get your kids ready for the day without stress, get plenty of sleep. These are all free and have less impact on the environment. They also enable employees to be more productive, gives them back time to be more mindful and thoughtful, leading to better decisions, higher quality work, and more fulfilling lives.
• Avoid unnecessary travel by working remotely as often as possible, and using digital communications such as messaging, video and audio calling, telephone, and email to replace physical meetings.
• Use low impact transport for travel as often as practical, if travel is required. For example, we use public transport to attend meetings and take a train rather than an airplane. We walk or cycle if possible. We're OK if it takes a little longer to get somewhere, and as a bonus, we'll get to appreciate our environment as we move through it.
• Support and donate to environmental causes. We will contribute a percentage of profits to environmental causes and encourage employees to support environmental initiatives. Including allowing reasonable time off to contribute time to environmental causes.
• Recycle as much waste material as possible.
• Avoid the use of paper wherever possible. For example, sending invoices and quotes via email as PDF files. In fact, as a company, we no longer own a printer of any sort - we do everything digitally.
• Recycle equipment that is no longer of use to the company. For example, giving away items such as computers and printers that we no longer use.
• Repair rather than replace equipment that can be repaired, if that equipment is still able to perform at acceptable levels.
• Keep energy usage low. For example, making use of low energy light bulbs throughout and ensuring that computers, tablets, and phones are configured to automatically shut down after a period of no use. We'll also seek and use suppliers that adopt sustainable energy practices or are actively working on reducing energy use, water use, and carbon emissions.
• Reuse waste paper where possible, making use of the blank side for notes, etc.
• Purchase only recycled paper (if paper is really needed). For example, paper towels, notepads.
• Purchase products with a lower environmental impact. For example environmentally safe soaps and detergents.
• Purchase electricity from a supplier committed to renewable energy or seek to maximize the proportion from renewable energy sources, whilst also supporting investment in new renewable energy schemes.
• Purchase fair-trade and/or organic whenever possible.
