The Twitter Rebrand to X. Now I get it!

A timeline of the Twitter Rebrand and X logo

Rebranding is always a risky proposition and generally you should NOT do it.

But there are exceptions when it makes sense - like when a company goes in a completely new direction.

Twitter’’s rebrand to X wasn’t that - the product despite massive staff layoffs and fiddling around with minor details and features, was the same basic product as before.

People laughed or cried - sad that their beloved Twitter was killed off.

Most of us put it down to Elon Musk’s ego and his obsession with the letter X. X appears in X.com (Elon’s first company) , Space-X, Tesla X, and X-AI, He even calls his son X Æ A-12 just X for short.

The rebrand from Twitter to “X” was Elon putting his stamp on things. Now everybody knew this was Elon’s company.

Sure there was the loose promise of making Twitter the “Everything app” akin to We Chat, but that hasn’t happened so far.

However two recent announcements change things.

Finally it all starts to make more sense after X, announced that it would formally allow porn on it’s platform (it’s been there for some time but wasn’t officially acknowledged) and it made Like’s Private so that your preferences and predilections would be be hidden from other users.

So, X is now the X-rated social media platform for Adults - it’s anything goes - from pornography to deep fakes, a sea of toxic soup, and disinformation only suitable for adults.

At least now it’s clear what you are getting yourself into.

Happy branding :)
