Working from home will be great for Tourism & Hospitality

While Covid-19 has been the spur for many companies to seriously consider/embrace working from home (aka Remote Working/Telecommuting) - WFH was already trending before the Coronavirus.

According to [https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/acs/news/data-releases/2017/release.html](recently released data) from the US Census, 5.2% of workers in the US worked at home in 2017—or 8 million people. That share is up from 5% in 2016, and 3.3% in 2000 and is continuing to grow.
Since the Coronavirus broke out, the switch to WFH, has been frontpage news all around the globe. Followed closely by cries of despair from Tourism and Hospitality businesses.Ok so we know now there will definitely be more people working from home or remotely in the future. It's also likely that a lot of companies will downsize or abandon their office building if they haven't already. A number of companies are now saying they'll never go back. Why is this good for Tourism and Hospitality? While we can all enjoy the benefits of WFH -  it’s also easy to go a little stir-crazy if you’re working on your own, at home. We (most of us) love coming together as a team, to collaborate, to socialize and mingle occasionally. This could be a day every week - say Office Wednesdays (pick your day), if you still maintain an office big enough to fit everyone in, or you can stagger employee's 'office days' and run a smaller space. However, for true remote asynchronous work - once a week isn’t really needed - instead you might decide that once per month, once per quarter, or once or twice a year is good enough. In fact many of the really remote companies that we follow have been doing this for years. One of those is Basecamp.com - they even published a [https://basecamp.com/books/remote](best selling book on the idea called Remote - Office not required) (a recommended read). If you take that approach on, you are most likely not going to have an office at all, or you may have a smaller branded space to meet customers or suppliers at in person occasionally.Whole team/whole company get-togethers now become a bit more special, and rare - and so companies are going to want to spend a bit of that money, saved on office lease costs, on company retreats and get-togethers instead. This is a fantastic opportunity for Tourism and Hospitality - to pivot to serving what I expect will be a growing company retreat/conference market.Kia kaha.
